In solidarity with US school children who will be demonstrating in Washington DC
Two Y12 students at La Châtaigneraie of the International School of Geneva are organizing a “March for our lives” rally at the Place des Nations at 13h00 on Saturday March 24th in solidarity with US school children who will be demonstrating in Washington DC to “demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools today”. Students from across the Foundation, and beyond, are welcome to join! Find out more about March for our Lives
Swiss Quakers have written a letter of support for and to the students of March for our Lives, and we urge you to hold them and policymakers in the light not just on the day of the march, but in the days ahead in their work for a more secure and peaceful society.
Swiss Quakers support the March for our Lives activism
We, the members of the Religious Society of Friends in Switzerland (i.e., Swiss Quakers) send you our sincere condolences for the loss of life among your friends and loved ones who were killed at either Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School or other schools throughout the US. We also express our sympathy for the pain you and your families have experienced.
As a religious society for which non-violence and peace making are core testimonies, we wholeheartedly support you in your demand to bring an effective bill before Congress for stricter legal regulations on the sale and ownership of guns and ammunition. We fully agree with your attempt to try and make American schools a safer place. We applaud your political activism; you are the future electorate, and you give us hope that the tide is turning.
Although we cannot be with you in person, please be sure, when you march on Washington to make your voices heard against issues of gun violence within US society and in support of a saner and safer political framework, we march with you in spirit and friendship. Do not give up! We firmly believe that perseverance, patience and unshakable hope can bring about change.
